Be boldly faithful

Good morning and welcome to Camp Habitat 2019! We hope you enjoy this quiet time of reflection and encouragement.

I once asked, “God, why Habitat?” The answer didn’t come immediately, but He later led me to Isaiah 65. In this passage, the prophet Isaiah gives us a glimpse into a new and future earth. He provides two key descriptors to this coming world: 1. They will build houses and dwell in them. 2. They will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

It suddenly dawned on me. What we do at Habitat is not something temporal, just for the here and now. What we do, in whatever role we have, in whatever measure we give, in whatever capacity we serve — we are part of something much greater. Our ministry at Habitat is of eternal value.

It later became even more clear. Through Habitat, we have the ability to participate in the work of loving others right now. After all, Jesus’ prayer in Matthew 6:10 was that God’s “will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” And guess what? There are no shacks in heaven!

Whatever community you are called to, be encouraged, be bold and be faithful to the assignment you have been given. For our Father God has entrusted you to demonstrate the desires of His heart. We do that in the space of helping others build or improve the places in which they live. Sharing the love of Jesus in this way will live on and echo into eternity.

Questions:
1. What areas of your job are you most faithfully devoted to? How might your investment in these areas echo in eternity?
2. In what ways might those you serve interpret your work as a real demonstration of Jesus’ love toward them?
3. In what ways does your daily work at Habitat align with God’s heart for your community?
